Prof. Ophir Klein

Dr. Ophir Klein is the Larry L. Hillblom Distinguished Professor in Craniofacial Anomalies, and the Charles J. Epstein Professor of Human Genetics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He received his M.D and Ph.D from Yale University School of Medicine, then completed residencies at Yale-New Haven Hospital in Pediatrics and at UCSF in Clinical Genetics. Dr. Klein has received several honors, including a New Innovator Award from the NIH, and he was elected to the National Academy of Medicine and American Society for Clinical Investigation. Dr. Klein’s research focuses on understanding fundamental mechanisms of embryonic organ formation and regenerative medicine, with a particular emphasis on understanding how stem cells enable renewal and regeneration.
